Retaining walls
From a 2-foot garden border to an 8-foot engineered slope hold — we build walls that actually hold.
How we build it
Retaining walls are where bad installs go to fail first. We follow ICPI / NCMA installation standards on every wall: a 6" compacted base, drainage gravel behind the wall, perforated drain tile at the base, and geogrid reinforcement on anything over 3 feet.
Walls over 4 feet include a stamped engineering review as part of the project plan.
What's included
Every job, every time.
- 01
Drainage built in
Perforated drain tile and 12" of clear-stone backfill behind every wall. Water has somewhere to go.
- 02
Geogrid reinforcement
Tensar geogrid layers tied into the soil mass on walls over 3 feet for long-term stability.
- 03
Engineered when required
Walls over 4 feet include a stamped engineer's drawing as part of the package.
- 04
Integrated steps & seating
Walls can double as seat-height benches, planters or step risers in the same paver family.
Materials we work with
- Techo-Bloc Mini-Creta
- Permacon Borealis
- Unilock Roman Pisa
- Natural armour stone
Common questions
Do I need a permit for a retaining wall?
In Ottawa, walls over 1 metre (39") generally require a permit. We handle the application as part of the project.
Can a wall double as a planter or seating?
Yes — many of our most-requested designs use the wall as a seat-height bench around a patio.
What's the maximum height you build?
We build segmental walls up to 8 feet with full engineering and geogrid. Taller projects we sub to a structural partner.
